Applications are invited from appropriately qualified and enthusiastic candidates for a three-year fixed term, full time position of Lecturer in the Department of Marine Science Te Tari PutaiaoTaimoana at the University of Otago, New Zealand.

The role

The successful applicant will participate fully in the Department’s research and teaching activities. They will contribute to teaching across a range of marine science disciplines, including biological oceanography, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and be expected to attract and supervise postgraduate students. The appointed candidate will be expected to develop an independent and productive research programme.

Required skills and experience

  • PhD degree in biological oceanography, or related marine science discipline.
  • Active research portfolio as demonstrated by high quality publications.
  • Outstanding capability in teaching and communicating marine science.
  • Collaborative and collegial approach to teaching and research.

We are seeking a biological oceanographer with an interest and publication record in any of the following areas: processes affecting coastal productivity, larval ecology and recruitment processes, mechanisms of change in communities, and physical/biological coupling (particularly in the context of a changing ocean). The ideal candidate will be motivated to engage in interdisciplinary research that spans these topics.
