Programme Specialists - Higher Education Support Programme
Renewable one year fixed-term contract

The Higher Education Support Programme (HESP) aims to leverage higher education as a means towards developing and strengthening open societies around the world. HESP works with grantees in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East to promote innovative teaching and research at higher education institutions, to improve access to higher education for marginalised groups, to protect intellectual freedom, promote good practices and support the role of higher education in advancing social justice. HESP works with leading thinkers in education and development to stimulate discussion of higher education policy and the role of universities and scholars in the development of open societies.

HESP seeks two Programme Specialists to join our team in Budapest for a one-year renewable contract. You will either be working with a primary focus on the programmes initiatives in the field of higher education for refugees and in the Middle East and North Africa, or in the fields of integrity, academic freedom and/or inclusive access to higher education, primarily in Eurasia and Africa.

To be successful, you will need a demonstrable interest in higher education policy, strong analytical and organisational skills and an ability to write clear, well-structured prose. We are seeking creative colleagues who are able to take initiative and work independently towards clearly specified goals.

You will also need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, combined with significant experience in civil society or philanthropic organisations, universities or development organisations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

You must also be willing to travel internationally, as and when required.

To apply online, please go to our website and upload a covering letter and resume as one document when submitting your application.

Closing date: 5 January 2018.

We are strengthened by the diversity of our colleagues across the Open Society Foundations. We welcome applications from people of all cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, and are committed to providing reasonable accommodations so that colleagues with disabilities are able to fulfill the essential functions of the job.
