Postdoc - Bioinformatician, Deep Learning for NGS analyses

A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Panagiotis Alexiou in the area of Machine Learning. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the development of Machine Learning applications (among others Deep Neural Networks) in the direction of identifying patterns within Next Generation Sequencing Data from RNA and DNA binding proteins. The position is exclusively in silico based, there is no wet-lab component. 


  • Be within 7 years after receiving PhD. Ph.D or equivalent, preferably in the field of Bioinformatics or Computer Science 
  • Expertise in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (specifically CHIP-Seq and CLIP-Seq data) and Machine Learning (preferably Convolutional Neural Networks and state of the art Deep Learning technologies) 
  • Expertise in perl or python, bash scripting, and R (caret, mxnetR) 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Published in impactful journals in the field, corresponding to given stage of career demonstrating creativity and scientific quality (with at least 2 papers, one the them as first author, during the last 3 years) 
  • Worked at least 2 whole years out of the last 3 outside of the Czech Republic 
  • Good English language – spoken and written

Desirable but not required: 

  • Deep understanding of Molecular Biology theory and experimental procedures 
  • Expertise on RNA/DNA Binding Proteins and Small RNAs will be a positive asset 
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning software (tensorflow, keras) preferable 
  • Motivated person with collaborative mind set 
  • Willingness to engage in the life of academic community
