Applications are invited for a 100% permanent position at the Associate Professor level in Film Studies at the Department of Art and Media Studies (IKM) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. The post of Associate Professor of Film Studies will primarily support the Department’s BA program in Film Studies and the Film Studies pathway of its MA program in Film and Media Studies.

The Department

The Department of Art and Media Studies is a part of the Faculty of Humanities at NTNU, situated at the Dragvoll Campus in Trondheim. The Department currently employs 29 permanent academic staff within the fields of Film Studies, Film and Video Production, Media Studies, Art History and Drama and Theatre. Within the field of Film and Media Studies, the department offers studies at BA, MA, and PhD level, with program options in Film Studies, Film and Video Production, and Media Studies, respectively. The Department has a humanistic approach to teaching and research in the aforementioned fields.

Applicants must hold a PhD in film studies or equivalent qualifications.

In addition

The successful applicant will be expected to support and extend the research profile of the Department by engaging in its ongoing research groups, or initiating new groups and collaborative activities. In order to facilitate assessment of potential for contributing to the development and visibility of Film Studies research at NTNU, applicants must submit a statement of future research plans alongside their application.

The successful candidate is expected to have a core competence in Film Studies.

Applicants must have, and be able to document, relevant pedagogical qualifications and teaching experience at higher-education level, ideally including academic supervision.

Relevant teaching experience together with pedagogical competency will be taken into consideration. Both the quality and scope of pedagogical qualifications and experience will be emphasized in the evaluation of the applicants. Pedagogical competency is assessed by pedagogical education, teaching experience, and experience of academic supervision at both MA and PhD level, other educational experience and clarity and accessibility of written work. All employees are expected to participate in the development and delivering of courses in Film Studies, and must have an interest in developing new methods of teaching and evaluation.

Employment conditions

As employee you are, together with your colleagues, expected to lecture, supervise and evaluate according to current syllabus and regulations. You are also expected to contribute to further development of BA and MA programs in Film Studies.

Academic staff without a formal pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching, and who are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to successfully complete a recognized course that provides a pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching within two years of taking up the appointment. The university offers such courses. Documentation of extensive practical- pedagogical competency may give exemption from this requirement.

Newly employed staff in academic positions who are not already fluent in a Scandinavian language, must within three years obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in the "Norwegian for Foreigners" courses provided by the Department of Language and Literature. The University will make it possible for the person appointed to attend such a course.

It is a condition for employment that all staff at NTNU move to Trondheim, to take up residence and be available for the institution.

The position as Associate Professor is placed in code 1011 in the State salary regulations, and is remunerated according to the State salary scale, range 24, salary levels from 57 to 77, with gross salary at present from NOK 490.900,- to NOK 722.400,- per year. Two percent of gross salary is deducted and paid into the State pension scheme.

The appointment will be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State employees and civil servants.

Process:

Please do not attach copies of your academic work to your application. Following the application deadline, a shortlist of applicants will be drawn up. All applicants will be informed whether or not they are shortlisted.
