Professor and Assistant Dean, Year 1 and Year 2

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is a partnership between two of the world’s premier institutions of higher education, Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The medical school, established at NTU in Singapore, offers a five-year MBBS degree jointly awarded by both institutions. The School welcomed its first cohort of medical students in August 2013 and there are ambitious plans for growth. 

The School now invites applicants with a strong international reputation in education and/ or research to apply for an appointment at Full Professor level with a concurrent appointment as Assistant Dean, Years 1 and 2, which will be based full-time in Singapore. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of education in an innovative new medical school in a globally vibrant environment. Reporting to the Vice Dean, Education, the appointee is expected to provide educational leadership for Years 1 and/or 2 of the MBBS programme. The appointee will also be expected to collaborate with management and faculty in LKCMedicine and beyond to foster continued innovation and quality improvement in education. 

Primary Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Involve in developing and managing the LKCMedicine MBBS programme, with a particular focus on Years 1 and/or 2 of the curriculum. Responsibility for examination and assessment procedures, curriculum evaluation and improvements and student progress issues are also important requirements. Involve in the development of the scientific basis of medicine as a vertical theme extending beyond Years 1 and 2
  • Undertake high quality internationally leading research in line with LKCMedicine’s research strategy. This will be through sustaining a personal research plan and developing innovative research proposals and funding bids; managing and undertaking research activities; publishing in international peer reviewed journals; reviewing manuscripts and grant applications and other professional activities where appropriate. Interact and collaborate with research teams from other faculties, schools and research institutes where appropriate
  • Participate in the delivery of the MBBS Curriculum. He/She is also expected to undertake teaching and educational responsibilities for the training of medical students and postgraduate research students. Teaching methods will include use of team-based learning and eLearning
  • Lead a research team and secure grant funding
  • Provide mentorship for faculty in research and/or education to support their professional development
  • Participate in academic committees and other administrative requirements of the School and the University as appropriate

Person Specification:

  • PhD and/or MD degree(s)
  • Relevant postdoctoral experience 
  • Proven track record of strong leadership and ability to drive change
  • Excellent communication skills and an appreciation for constructive teamwork
