A Postdoctoral Research Associate is required to work in the area of protocell research, working under the supervision of Professor Steve Mann. The project involves the development of new methods for the construction of synthetic protocells and their collective behaviour as integrated communities with emergent properties.
 
Applicants should have expertise in areas such as soft matter, synthetic biology or self-assembly, and have major interests at the chemistry/biology interface. You should have experience in areas such as microcapsule preparation and characterization, fluorescence microscopy/spectroscopy, bioconjugation chemistry, microfluidics, FACS, cell-free gene expression, cell biology, as well as knowledge of soft matter systems and their characterization.  An interest and background in protocell research, synthetic biology, origins of life research or microscale robotics preferred. 

The start date will be after April 2018 with funding available to support this role for 3 years in the first instance.
