Job Description

The Director of Marketing & Communications at the BU School of Social Work is charged with creating and executing communication plans that successfully support the recruitment, programmatic, and strategic goals of the School. This position reports directly to the Dean and oversees the marketing team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide stategic direction to the marketing and promotion of all SSW educational, research and other programmatic activities; to identify priority areas of focus; and collaborate with stakeholders, including faculty and administration across departments and centers to stenghten and raise SSWs national reputation through the promotion and execution of comprehensive, multi-platform marketing and communication plans.

Recurrent areas of focus include: marketing efforts for deparments; internal communication to faculty, staff, students, and alumni; improving visibility and support of school-wide events and traditions; and public relations on behalf of the Deans Office, SSW faculty, and administration, with an emphasis on breaking news, community involvement, and research; and strengthening SSWs connection to its large alumni base.

Required Skills

B.A./B.S. in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, Master's Degree preferred. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with print, web, social media, and other marketing channels, diverse technical skill set related to print and digital communication and production, including Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and CRM-management software. Eight years of related experience.

A successful candidate will have highly effective interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated expertise working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to deal successfully with multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and to drive projects to successful completion. Capable of navigating the complexities of and leveraging resources within a large institution. Interest and familiarity with social work education is preferred.
