This is a senior, strategic appointment reporting directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and leading the University’s estates strategy and five-year business plan, ensuring optimum use of the University’s buildings, facilities and resources to the benefit of our students, staff and visitors.
Staffordshire University has ambitious plans as we embed our strategy to become “The Connected University”. With a presence across four campus sites (Stoke, Stafford, Lichfield, and Shrewsbury), we have recently invested over £40 million in campus transformation and are master-planning our future estate. We are continually investing in our campus buildings and facilities with a focus on providing innovative, digitally led teaching spaces to enhance our students’ experience, so the post-holder’s role in delivering this strategy is crucial.
At our main University Quarter campus in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, we are actively supporting the city’s bid to become City of Culture 2021 with the University embedded as its intellectual hub. We have achieved Silver in the TEF and have been ranked No. 1* for Employability in the DLHE 2017, so this is a particularly exciting time to join Staffordshire University.
The Director of Estates will develop the current teams to deliver excellent customer service across the Estates portfolio, as well as ensuring compliance against planned and unplanned maintenance. The Director may also have oversight of commercial activities in the future.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of managing an Estates portfolio at a strategic level in a complex organisation. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, as well as the ability to manage multiple programmes of work within timescale and to budget. You will be highly motivated and flexible with significant experience of leading and managing large teams. Experience of soft facilities management would be advantageous.
Salary: £70,004 upwards, dependent on experience.
*No.1 relates to English Universities. Joint with Bishop Grosseteste. Excluding specialist institutions.
