Assistant Professor in Music (PR177/17-18) 


The Department of Music (http://mus.hkbu.edu.hk) has rapidly emerged as one of the leading institutions in Hong Kong to provide a rigorous performance curriculum supported by vibrant music-making activities. The Department currently has 16 full-time, 15 part-time and over 100 adjunct faculty. Our artist teachers share our commitment to helping students reach a high level of musical and intellectual development. Many of our graduates have continued their studies in graduate schools worldwide, including top institutions in the USA and Europe.

The Department of Music now seeks outstanding applicants for one substantiable/tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor specialising in the field of music theory and composition, with possible additional qualifications in performance. 

The appointee is expected to fully engage in research work within his/her specialism. In addition, he/she should be able to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in composition, theory, and other courses assigned by the Head of Department.

The appointee is expected to be an active member in Department and Faculty-level administration, including (but not limited to) quality assurance, curriculum development, academic advising, supervision of undergraduate Honours Projects and postgraduate research, active participation in student recruitment, juries, and auditions.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in music (PhD or equivalent), three to four years of collegiate-level teaching experience, a growing record of scholarly/creative outputs in theory and composition, and a proven record of success in their chosen area of expertise.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2018. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
