The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is seeking to appoint three non-clinical postdoctoral fellowships at the Research Fellow or Assistant Professor level aligning to MRC Industrial Strategy and connected to Health Data Research UK (HDR UK). The HDR UK is a national, interdisciplinary research institute for health and biomedical informatics research that will transform the UK medical informatics research landscape and capitalise on the UK’s renowned data resources and research strengths.

These fellowships seek to recruit outstanding postdoctoral researchers who are looking to establish their own independent research careers. These prestigious awards will provide three years’ salary support at the Research Fellow or Assistant Professor level and running expenses. They will enable appointees to establish their own research programmes at LSHTM. Candidates require the support of an LSHTM academic sponsor; applicants should liaise with their proposed sponsor when developing their application and obtain a letter of support prior to submitting their application.
Please note that the successful candidates must be in post by 15 February 2018.

The fellowships must focus on one of the following priority areas relating to Health Data Science:

  • Actionable Health Data Analytics: harnessing data science to develop and deliver robust analytical methods, software tools and related resources on both structured and unstructured data
  • 21st Century Trial Design: utilising technologies and data science to transform the approach to Phase II – Phase IV clinical trials by supporting the design of intelligent trials using electronic health records.
  • Modernising Public Health: utilising information technologies and data science in enhancing the precision and speed of public health assessment and interventions.

The MRC UKRI Innovation / Rutherford Fund Fellowships in Health Data Research are available starting on 15 February 2018 as a fixed-term contract of 36 months (full time) with School policies regarding long-term leave (e.g. parental or sickness) and part-time working applying. The salary will be on the Academic pathway at Research Fellow level (£38,533 to £43,759 per annum, inclusive) or Assistant Professor level (£44,979 to £50,627 per annum, inclusive). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.

Applications should be made on-line via our website at http://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk.
