Director of Strategy, Planning and Resources - Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The Open University - Milton Keynes

Salary: £75,638 - £88,653

The Open University (OU) is the UK’s largest academic institution and a world leader in flexible distance learning. Inclusive, innovative and responsive, the OU has a vibrant research community and each year helps almost 180,000 students worldwide to achieve their learning goals. Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Peter Horrocks, the OU is committed to a programme of transformation and growth.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is one of the largest in the University, with some 50,000 students and an annual income of over £115m. Formed from a merger in 2016 of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences, FASS offers a diverse range of academic provision and is noted for the strength of its interdisciplinary approaches. The Director of Strategy, Planning and Resources will lead on all professional services and administration for the Faculty as its most senior non-academic member of staff. Working closely with the Executive Dean, you will help shape strategy; ensure integrated planning with the wider OU whilst effectively managing resources; and lead change so the Faculty can embrace the future of higher education.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader of multi-disciplinary functions with a track record gained in complex stakeholder organisations. You will possess significant leadership experience of taking teams through change and delivering first-class services. With demonstrable experience of shaping strategy, you will make a real contribution as a member of the Faculty Senior Team and will have genuine empathy with the OU’s mission and values.

For an informal discussion on the role please contact Gin Bhandal on 0121 654 5955.

Closing date for applications will be midday on Friday 12th January 2018.
