About the job

Swinburne Student Life is responsible for overseeing the provision of a range of services to students of Swinburne University of Technology. These services include social and cultural activities, sports, clubs and societies, orientation, leadership development, volunteering, and independent advocacy. 

An opportunity for an Advocacy Officer has arisen and will operate under the direction of the Team Leader – Advocacy. The role of the Advocacy Officer is to conduct all the administrative and operational aspects of the Advocacy service including case management and promotion of service. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to the principles of independence, and will display sound judgement and advanced problem-solving skills within a large and complex organisation. The Advocacy Officer will play an integral role in the delivery of quality customer service to students and Student Life outcomes. 

The Advocacy Officer will demonstrate strong leadership, knowledge and experience with the ability to make a valued contribution to the team within the respective service area. They will represent Student Life and the University to industry, community and government and have the ability to establish and maintain professional and collaborative opportunities.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in advocacy and/or the interpretation and implementation of policy, procedure and regulation
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding customer service, to implement new initiatives and take an innovative approach to customer service and conflict resolution
