Macquarie is the university of pioneering minds. Globally recognised as one of Australia's leading research universities, Macquarie is a place where extraordinary new possibilities come to light. We've helped people to hear, introduced wireless internet technology to the world and broken through traditional boundaries by appointing Australia's first female vice-chancellor.

At Macquarie you'll join a vibrant community of diverse perspectives, all working towards a brighter future for our communities and our planet. Surrounded by beautiful parkland campus, our students and staff are free to explore and discover, supported by facilities including a high-tech library, private teaching hospital, gym and pools, childcare facilities, a campus train station and the newly expanded Macquarie Centre shopping complex next door.

Join us and start seeing the world in a different light.

The University seeks a high performing candidate to join the in-house Property Division, which comprises 80+ architects, designers, engineers, surveyors, builders, and project management experts from a wide array of sectors.

You’ll be motivated by the breadth, scale and complexity of projects being undertaken across the 126ha park-like grounds of the University, as it continues to meet the international expectations and technical specifications demanded of a world-leading centre of innovation, discovery and learning.

As Senior Project Manager, you’ll contribute to Property’s commitment to timely and outstanding service delivery by:

  • Leading and aligning the efforts of project teams, whilst providing a consistent and hands-on approach to achieve project milestones, manage risk and governance, evaluate, and report, and
  • Scoping, defining, and managing projects to meet statutory requirements, innovative design and build outcomes, and the complexities of the University’s 2014 Master Plan.

Aligned with one of Australia’s strongest and innovative education brands and reporting directly to the Services Infrastructure Manager, this is a senior, intellectually challenging and pivotal role, to which you will bring previous experience in large-scale commercial infrastructure, utilities (water, energy), new build construction and refurbishment, and contracting.

Whilst an understanding of the higher education sector would be valuable, it is essential that you demonstrate a successful track record in overseeing diverse, multiple programs of work in other sectors, with an emphasis on the areas noted above.  You may bring experience in sustainable construction, new materials, innovative building solutions, with a focus on on-site efficiency, operations, and effectiveness through technology.

To illustrate the breadth of its projects, Macquarie University is:

  • The first and only University in Australia to deliver, own and operate an on-site private hospital, with construction of an additional teaching facility from 2018
  • Commencing construction of a new Law School in 2020
  • Delivering on-campus accommodation for up to 1000 students from 2018
  • Recognised for its award-winning library and its world-leading robotic technologies
  • Completing two 25,000sqm developments on University Avenue, and
  • A recipient of 4 design awards for its new Incubator project.

Highly developed communication skills are essential in this impactful and valued role, as is your ability to bring people on board through your enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity. Your commitment to your own professional development will be underpinned by your qualifications in civil or mechanical engineering and credentials in project management.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join an award-winning and experienced Property Team, and to positively impact Macquarie University’s tradition of innovation and exploration.
