Head of Biomedical Engineering
Established in 1949, UNSW is already one of the world’s leading universities, currently ranked 45thin the world (QS ranking) and distinguished by pioneering research with a focus on the scientific, technological and professional disciplines. UNSW is currently implementing its 2025 strategy and its ambition for the next decade is nothing less than to establish UNSW as Australia’s global university. The unique reach of the Strategic Hires and Retention Pathways (SHARP) recruitment campaign and the creation of unprecedented medical partnerships such as the Health-Science Alliance represent this strategic ambition in action.
UNSW Biomedical Engineering is poised to undertake a big expansion. With the backing of both the Faculty of Engineering (ranked 31st in the world) and the Faculty of Medicine (50th in the world), the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering will grow to a scale matching UNSW’s world-leading schools in areas such as Civil and Environmental Engineering. This growth will be complemented by the establishment of an Institute of Biomedical Engineering, a multi-million-dollar multi-disciplinary venture designed to incubate translational research by bringing together experts from across the faculties as well as from industry.
UNSW is currently seeking a Head of the Graduate School who will also lead the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, assembling the team and helping set the research direction. The appointee will ideally be an excellent researcher with credibility spanning the clinical and engineering sciences who has the leadership acumen to build an entity of the Institute’s breadth.
