Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Environmental Sustainability in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (as tenure home) and the Faculty of Social Sciences, to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes.  The Department also contributes to the Medical Engineering programme, which is jointly offered by the Faculties of Engineering and Medicine.  The Department employs about 30 full-time faculty and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support.  The Department has a vibrant research environment and promotes cutting-edge research in strategic areas including materials and nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, control and robotics, biomedical engineering, and energy and environment.  Information about the Department can be obtained at 

Hong Kong as a dense, mega city with high economic growth is an ideal model in the world seeking innovative technologies to sustain its safe and healthy living environment.  The appointee to this post is expected to conduct frontier research within the broad area of developing advanced mechanical engineering solutions to sustain the well-being of such an urban environment.  Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in mechanical or related engineering field with an excellent research record.  Examples of issues to be studied may include mechanics or materials-science based solutions of environmental (e.g. air or noise) pollution, development of sustainable energy systems, and mechanical engineering (e.g. robotics) systems that mitigate risks such as high-rise fires, natural disasters and structural ageing.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
