We are seeking a medically qualified individual to work alongside Professor Diana Lockwood and Dr Stephen Walker on leprosy related research projects. The Lockwood Leprosy Group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has a major interest in leprosy reactions which are significant cause of morbidity for people affected by leprosy. The Erythema Nodosum Leprosum International STudy (ENLIST) Group, an international collaboration of leprosy centres, is coordinated by Dr Walker and has secured funding to conduct randomised clinical trials (RCTs) in erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). The Leprosy Research Initiative have funded “Methotrexate and Prednisolone studies (MaPs) in ENL” which will be the largest RCTs ever conducted in ENL.
The post-holder will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and analysis of the two multicentre RCTs. There will be scope to develop additional research to complement these studies and it is anticipated that the successful applicant will register for a higher degree. Support is for three years and includes a clinical salary, research expenses, general training funds and travel costs.
The successful applicant will have a medical degree, one year higher Medical specialty training and MRCP in the field relevant to the research project, GMC registration or eligibility to be GMC registered in the relevant country, membership of Royal College of Physicians or equivalent. The post-holder must demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to pursuing a career as an academic clinician with an interest in global health. This full-time post, based in London, is funded by the Hospital & Homes of St Giles for a period of 3 years and is available immediately. Appointments will be made to an appropriate point on the national clinical academic salary scales within the range £31,931 to £44,307 per annum plus £2,162 London allowance. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
