The School of Biological Sciences within the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health conducts world class research and teaching in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, ecology, conservation biology, evolutionary biology and marine biology. Researchers working in medically relevant areas are situated at the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute, while ecology-based researchers have access to the Ecological Research Facility, with 576 square meters of laboratory space for contained experiments.

This position will be expected to teach in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and bioinformatics subjects, as appropriate. It will be responsible for supervising Honours and postgraduate students as well as conducting high quality research in cell/molecular biology. Prominent research activities of the School include stem cell research, neurodegeneration, cancer biology, microbiology and proteostasis. Members of the School have access to modern laboratories (PC2 and PC3 research), bacterial and tissue culture facilities, animal holding facilities, confocal microscopes, flow cytometers, electrophysiology rigs, and many other cutting-edge instruments and facilities.
