The Boston University School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health is looking for a full-time Research Assistant on a study of air pollution exposures and health impacts in Boston and New York. The position will support a new study funded by the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team program entitled, High Resolution Particulate Matter Data for Improved Satellite-Based Assessments of Community Health. The study will deploy and analyze data from a novel low cost sensor designed to measure long-term average concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10-2.5, and to characterize both particle size and composition. Data from the low cost sensor will be compared with co-located surface measurements using high cost regulatory monitors. Surface measurements will also be combined with satellite-derived estimates of PM2.5, and land use variables, to produce improved estimates of long-term exposures at fine spatial scales in the study communities, as well as health impacts.
The RA will have primary responsibility for deployment and retrieval of the air samplers, for record keeping, shipping and tracking of sampling supplies and equipment, and maintaining computer files of field and lab data. The RA will also support the organization and planning of project conference calls and webinars, and with the development of communication materials for stakeholders and the general public. The RA will also assist with data analyses to compare the low-cost data with other measures, and to combine multiple data sources to derive improved exposure and health impact estimates.
Bachelor's Degree Required. The position will require monthly travel to three field sites in the Boston area, and occasional visits to NYC.
