Strategic Development Director
£70,000 - £75,000 p.a. depending on experience plus a housing allowance of £8,230.
Pembroke College is entering a new phase as it shapes and develops a fundraising campaign in anticipation of Pembroke’s 400th Anniversary in 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for the new Strategic Development Director to play a significant role in driving the success of the College for the future, and ensuring that we attract the brightest students – no matter what their background - offer exemplary teaching and attract the keenest research minds.
Founded in 1624, Pembroke is a lively and ambitious intellectual community, where students and academics alike are passionate about their subjects. Oxford is a collegiate university - Pembroke is one of 38 colleges and its student body consists of around 360 undergraduates, some 38 visiting students on their Junior Year Abroad from US and Chinese universities, and more than 270 postgraduates.
Under the guidance of the Master, Governing Body and a supportive Development Committee, the Strategic Development Director will lead and take ownership of the College’s vitally important fundraising and alumni relationships activity. S/He will bring innovative approaches to current activities, hold a portfolio of key donors and prospects drawn principally from the College’s alumni and be responsible for all aspects of external development relations. S/he will define, plan and implement the College’s development strategy and programme, and meet challenging but achievable fundraising targets. S/he will develop and lead the College’s small, strong team of fundraisers and alumni relations professionals.
A critical aspect of the role is to give creative articulation and delivery of a £40M campaign leading up to the College’s 400th Anniversary in 2024 that will make a crucial difference to the future of Pembroke. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual to take a leading role from the development of a major Oxford college campaign right through to its full delivery. As a Fellow and member of Governing Body, the successful candidate will be fully embedded in the college’s life and involved in its decision making in all areas.
Ideal candidates may come from a range of different backgrounds, but will be able to show a successful track record in the areas of business development, relationship management and/or in fundraising. They will be educated to degree level, comfortable in an academic environment and fully committed to the College’s academic goals. They will also have well-developed management, leadership and delivery skills and ideally have experience of planning, managing and implementing a capital campaign or equivalent initiatives.
