Description of Work Unit

The Laboratory for Air Quality Research (http://tinyurl.com/aerosol-csu) and Aerosol and Cloud Research Group (http://pierce.atmos.colostate.edu), spanning the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Atmospheric Sciences at Colorado State University, have an opening for a post-doctoral researcher in the field of regional air quality/climate modeling. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary research project (funded by DOE-Atmospheric Science Research) focused on improving the representation of organic aerosols and studying the radiative and cloud effects in large-scale three-dimensional models.
Research will occur under the supervision of Dr. Shantanu Jathar (Mechanical Engineering) and Dr. Jeffrey Pierce (Atmospheric Sciences) at the Powerhouse Energy Campus (http://www.energy.colostate.edu) in collaboration with the Dr. Christopher Cappa (Civil and Environmental Engineering) at the University of California Davis.
Required Job Qualifications
The selected candidate will have a doctoral degree in a science or engineering field (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Earth Sciences) with research experience in air pollution and/or atmospheric chemistry.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates that have strong numerical modeling skills (e.g., experience with chemical transport models (e.g., WRF-Chem, CMAQ) and programming/scripting languages (e.g., Fortran, Python)), demonstrated communication skills (written and oral), organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently and within collaborative teams, and enthusiasm for air quality, climate science, and public health.

Job Duty Category Numerical Schemes Duty/Responsibility
The position is mostly dedicated (~80% of the time) to design, develop, and deploy numerical schemes to represent the emissions, physicochemical transformation, and fate of organic aerosols in box and three-dimensional models.

The other 20% of the position will be used to support grant writing for Drs. Jathar and Pierce and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
