We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr Paul Race's laboratory in the School of Biochemistry, University of Bristol. You will work as part of an EPSRC funded collaborative multidisciplinary team progressing a research project at the interface of the physical and life sciences. The aim of this project is to develop evolvable bio-hybrid systems (materials, devices, etc.) that possess the inherent capacity to autonomously sense and repair damage. The main focus of this role is to develop robust and predictable methods for the integration of biological and materials systems across all scales, from atomistic to macroscopic.

You should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, materials science, or a closely related discipline, and have proven technical skills in protein biochemistry, molecular biology and the formulation and testing of functional (bio)materials. This highly collaborative project will involve interaction with six other UK universities and 12 industrial partners, so it is critical that applicants evidence their willingness and ability to work collaboratively with a range of project partners from both academia and industry.

You will benefit from access to cutting-edge facilities and infrastructure at the University of Bristol including equipment housed within the BrisSynBio Synthetic Biology Research Centre and the Bristol Biodesign Institute. The post is for 3 years.

For informal enquiries please contact: Dr Paul Race, +44 1173311835, paul.race@bristol.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 17 December 2017.
