The Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education (MCSHE) is a leading national and international centre for higher education research and has significant responsibility for the provision of professional development for staff in teaching and learning, research and engagement across the University of Melbourne.

The MCSHE is now seeking a Professor level Director to lead the activities of the centre and research programs central to the foci of the Centre.  The Director will provide strong academic leadership within the Melbourne Graduate School of Education and will contribute with exceptional scholarly expertise, strategic planning and academic management to the refinement and enhancement of student opportunities to build and deliver world class academic programs in the Centre for the Study of Higher Education.

To be the ideal candidate for this position, you will have an established or rapidly emerging international reputation in education, with a strong research profile and demonstrable capacity for leadership in research, training and collaboration. You will have a substantial track record of success in significant research grants and income as well as in attracting and supervising research students. Your experience and ability to lead and establish productive collaborations within educational research is essential for this role.

Reporting to the Dean, Melbourne Graduate School of Education, you will utilise your proven leadership qualities to help influence excellent outcomes for teaching and learning in the discipline of higher education for The University of Melbourne and develop excellence in others, through leading by example and mentoring of staff. As the ideal candidate, you will work with senior colleagues to set directions for the MCSHE's future, developing programs and initiatives using multidisciplinary approaches that take advantage of the design teaching culture within the MGSE.

As the ideal candidate, you will be a well-respected leader internationally within your discipline and will also bring a sustained track record in academic engagement with the vision and capacity to help shape academic teaching and research.

The Director will be required to undertake the responsibilities of a Professor of the University and the Faculty as outlined in: University Expectations of a Professor and Faculty Expectations of Academic staff. All Professors are members of the Academic Board of the University.
