Job Description

The Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible to lead the development and creation of a broad strategic communications and media outreach plan for the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Responsibilities will include developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy; overseeing the creation of all creative content and its distribution through print, digital, video and social media outlets. The Director is responsible to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies to promote and enhance the Schools visibility and reputation, and to advance efforts to reach external and internal audiences including prospective and current students and patients, alumni, corporate partners, faculty and staff. The Director will manage a communications calendar for the Dental School, the production and dissemination of all print media, a weekly digital newsletter, continuous social media outreach and other digital communications. S/he will be charged with developing press and outreach strategies around specific events and programs; creating press releases, briefing materials, digital content, collateral, and other material necessary to maximize strategic impact; overseeing development of the Schools marketing materials; ensuring consistency and quality of brand management in accordance with Boston University standards for all Dental School marketing and communication vehicles; supporting major events and presentations of the Schools work; and developing strong working relationships with the faculty and staff to enhance programs and projects within the School by providing strategic and operational communications support for them as required. S/he will collaborate with and act as the liaison between the Dental School and other principal communications outlets of the Boston University Medical Campus and Boston University. The Director will oversee and manage the daily operations of the Office of Communication, including direct supervision and development of Office of Communications staff. The position will report to the Executive Director of Finance & Administration in the Office of the Dean.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree and eight plus years of related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or advertising is required Prior experience as a content writer creating compelling and persuasive copy for publication in print, digital, and social media platforms is required Copy editing and proofing experience is required Previous supervisory experience developing, directing and mentoring a team required Prior experience developing and managing the production of in-house publications preferred Experience with HTML, WordPress, CSS and Search Engine Algorithms (SEO) preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe products, publishing software and online media methods preferred.
