The Social and Cultural History of Anglican Vicarages in late Twentieth-Century Urban Britain
Fixed-term for 3½ years from 1 March 2018

Applications are invited for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in the School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London. The post-holder will work closely with Professor Alastair Owens during his term as Head of School and will be responsible for: (i) conducting research on Professor Owens’s project on the social and cultural history of Anglican vicarages in late twentieth-century urban Britain; and (ii) supporting Professor Owens’s other research activity and wider collaborative work with museums and other non-university partners. 

Applicants will be expected to have completed their PhD and have knowledge and research expertise in the history of urban social and cultural change in late twentieth-century Britain and/or religion and urban change in the same period and context. The post will primarily involve conducting primary archival and oral history research, developing research grant applications, analyzing research materials, co-authoring papers with Professor Owens and colleagues, and providing support for other research and wider collaborative initiatives including the Centre for Studies of Home.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for 3½ years, starting on 1 March 2018 and ending on 31 August 2021. The starting salary will be from £32,956 to £40,865 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
