At the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies in the Institute of German Studies the position of

Chair (W3) of Applied Linguistics

is to be filled as soon as possible.

The Chair’s main research area shall be the field of corpus linguistics with a focus on cultural sciences. In teaching, it is required that the applicant participates in all study programmes (BA, MA and State Examination) in the field of German studies and in the international Master study programme “European Languages” (EuroS). We also expect the candidate to participate in the development of the future master study programme in the field of digital humanities, to be willing to work in an interdisciplinary context, in particular in STEM subjects and the Collaborative Research Centre 1285 “Invectivity” as well as to show commitment to the development of third-party funded interdisciplinary research projects. The ability and willingness to teach courses in English as well as participation in the academic self-administration are required.

Apart from possessing a broad knowledge of applied linguistics (in a German studies context), the successful candidate shall be proficient in one or several of the following fields: development of corpus linguistic methods of discourse analysis and corpus grammar, theories of culture analytic linguistics and visual analytics. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act – SächsHSFG).
