The UTS Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS) within the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (MME) is an internationally acclaimed robotics research group. CAS’ vision is to be an internationally recognised leader, at a scale and quality to be globally significant, for robotics research, development and commercial application of “Autonomous and Human Interactive Robotics”. Since its establishment in 2003, CAS has demonstrated international leadership in driving research advancements in robotics and in delivering real-world solutions to key challenges facing government, industry and the wider community. Examples include the autonomous robots for bridge maintenance and the autonomous bio-inspired climbing robots, both deployed in the Sydney Harbour Bridge. CAS currently has over 75 robotics researchers with international reputation in SLAM, Infrastructure Robotics, Assistive Robotics and Robot teams. CAS has developed a very strong engagement program with industry and governments. CAS prides itself on a culture of cooperation, collaboration and “ownership”.

CAS is seeking up to three outstanding academics (at any level from lecturer to professor) in robotics and mechatronics to join the growing team in the School of MME.

Besides conducting fundamental robotics research, each of the academics is expected to take a leading role in one of the three topic areas of underwater robotics, assistive robotics (with the focus on aged care and health care) and construction robotics.

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) is an Australian leader in practice-based learning and industry engagement and recognised internationally for its areas of research strength and expertise. The Faculty delivers rigorous, practical and industry-focused education and research that encourages disruptive technologies and cultivates exceptional engineering and information technology professionals.

As an academic (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor) within UTS:FEIT, you will actively contribute to the research, and teaching and educational development portfolio of the School of Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering within the area of mechatronics and robotics.

Remuneration/Salary

Base Salary Range: $99,924 to 182,053 (Level B – E)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
