Assistant Professor in Russian Studies / Director for External Programs

The School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS) at Nazarbayev University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Russian Studies / Director of External Programs to commence on May 1, 2018.

The position requires a Ph.D. or a terminal degree in Russian Language and Literature or a related field, and the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in Russian as a Foreign Language, as well as courses in literature, culture, and translation. We seek a faculty member with an exemplary record of demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching (experience working with graduate students is a plus), research, and commitment to active involvement in the life of the Department and the School. The position will also require experience in design, promotion and administration of external/international programs such as study abroad programs and academic exchange programs, including Summer School of Russian and Eurasian Studies (SSRES).

This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, and it carries a teaching load commensurate to the volume of administrative duties.

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Literatures at SHSS currently has eleven full-time and 3 part-time faculty representing a variety of disciplines in the domain of languages, linguistics and world literatures. The Department has one of the fastest growing majors in the School and will add an array of literature, linguistics and language course offerings in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The Department is housed within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS), which offers six majors and has approximately 700 students.
