The school recognises the value of education that is relevant and innovative and is therefore a dual sector school that works actively with industry, government and the community partners in real world settings to provide a range of programs from specially tailored intervention programs for young people at risk of leaving education to PhDs in education. These include tertiary pathways and workforce enhancement programs in TAFE and teacher education programs in Higher Education.

The Role and Your Responsibilities

The Laboratory Technician will be required to support the School's teaching and learning programs and be responsive to the Program Managers, Program Coordinators and teaching staff within the school.

You will be responsible for maintaining, and demonstrating the operation of, laboratory equipment and instruments and providing technical support to staff and students. You will be expected to maintain the laboratory and supporting facilities, to ensure the occupational health and safety of staff and students.

Skills & Experience Required

To be considered for this position you will have completed a tertiary qualification in laboratory technology applicable to, Chemistry, Biology or Physics or have equivalent experience in a Science teaching laboratory. You will have experience in providing technical support with a background in VCE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and have expertise in providing appropriate materials and chemicals associated with all the VCE Science disciplines. Your excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage teaching laboratories and to support teaching staff in practical classes will be key to your success in this role. This position offers an initial one year fixed term, with a prospect of being extended.
