The Department of Psychology currently has approximately 110 employees and 1100 students. The Department holds a large and diverse research community covering a variety of disciplines within psychology, and offers studies at the bachelor-, master- (specializations in learning – brain, behavior, environment and in work- and organizational psychology) and PhD level in addition to a study programme in clinical psychology. The Department also has three outpatient clinics that offer out-patient treatment as part of the educational programme in clinical psychology. In addition, the Department participates in extensive local, national and international research collaborations. Our research ambition is to be internationally and nationally leading in various disciplines of psychology.

The Department of Psychology is now announcing a permanent position as Professor/Associate Professor in developmental psychology.  

Obligations

  • Specific responsibility for teaching in the field of developmental psychology. Teaching in other fields can be required.
  • Specific responsibility for research on basic issues in the field of developmental psychology
  • Participate in exams work.
  • Carry out research within his/her professional field.
  • Administrative tasks.
  • Jointly responsible for academic matters together with other academic staff at the Department.
  • Required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum and to assist in further development of the field and teaching program, including continuing education.
  • Supervision of master students, clinical psychology students and PhD students in his/her discipline.

The Professor/Associate Professor is obliged to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at NTNU.

Qualifications

For Professor:

The applicant must have documented university education in psychology or related fields of study. Documented scientific competence in developmental psychology at PhD level or higher is also required. Applicants with documented ability to publish in recognized international scientific journals will be given great weight. In the evaluation process, scientific work from the past five years will be given particular weight.

For Associate Professor:

The applicant must have documented university education in psychology or related fields of study. Documented scientific competence in developmental psychology at PhD level or higher is also required.  Applicants with documented ability to publish in recognized international scientific journals will be given great weight. In the evaluation process, scientific work from the past five years will be given particular weight.

If no applicants are suitable for the position, NTNU might consider temporary employment for up till three years with the aim of future qualification for a permanent position. Permanent employment will, in that case, occur without a new announcement, but based on an evaluation by a expert committee.

For both positions:

Pedagogical qualifications will also be evaluated. The evaluation will be based on documented pedagogical material, pedagogical education, presentational skills in your scientific work and experience from PhD - or Master’s level supervision, and teaching and pedagogical background of other sorts. Total quality will be evaluated. The best qualified Candidates will be invited to do a trial lecture and have an interview at the department.

Any person employed without university pedagogic competence and without documented equivalent qualifications, will be required to attend and complete a course in university pedagogics within two years. NTNU offers such courses.

Personal skills, such as independence, good teamwork skills, solution- and result orientation, and motivation to contribute to a good work environment, will be ascribed high importance.

The applicant must be fluent in English or in a Scandinavian language. Newly-employed staff in academic positions who are not already fluent in a Scandinavian language must within three years obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of Language- and Communication Studies. The University provides such courses.

Payment and Working conditions

Professor, code 1013 is paid a gross salary at minimum 606.400 NOK annually. Normally from 606.400 to 789.700 NOK annually, depending on qualifications. Two percent of gross salary is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

Associate professor, code 1011 is paid a gross salary at minimum 485.700 NOK annually. Normally from 485.700 to 719.600 NOK annually, depending on qualifications. Two percent of gross salary is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks. Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.

The total obligation to work shall be divided into research within the field, teaching and administration. The division between these fields of work obligation will vary, but approximately equal time should be devoted to research and teaching.

Applicants considered qualified for position as professor of developmental psychology are ranked higher than applicants who are considered qualified for position as associate professor of developmental psychology.
