This post is full time and fixed term for 6 months.
The role is to support a multi-disciplinary AHRC funded project titled “Church, State and the Nation: The Journals of Bishop Herbert Hensley Henson, 1900-1939.” Led by Dr Julia Stapleton, the project aims to produce an interactive digital edition of the Bishop’s 63 journals covering this period.
Working as part of an agile team, you will be involved in developing an interactive web frontend build upon Durham University digital repository software stack (Hydra) as well as designing an ingest process for XML encoded journals. This system aims to make the journals available digitally and will facilitate collaboration between researchers, academics and the public through the co-creation of content and mark up on the content. By applying semantic annotation and faced search techniques, the content will be enhanced to provide rich insights to the material.
Throughout the contract the Web Developer will develop modular, open source software to work within Samvera (e.g. https://samvera.org formerly known as Hydra) technology stack. The candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, deploying, testing and documenting software related to the above-mentioned areas.
