Research Associate
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

The position is to be filled starting from 1st of January 2018 and will be offered till 31st of December 2019. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD). 

Tasks: The research focuses on Computer Vision and Computer Graphics for Medical Imaging within the interdisciplinary research project “NeuroFusion”. The objective of the research project lies in the development of a neurosurgical assistance system for medical personal which visualizes the characteristic strengths of various imaging modalities in a single view. For this purpose, novel image registration and –fusion methods have to be developed so that a joint visualization of preoperative imaging, such as MRI and CT, as well as intraoperative imaging, such as 3D-ultrasound, stereo- and thermal imaging, can be achieved. Therefore, we aim to develop a generic mathematical framework for multimodal image registration and –fusion. Furthermore, the data shall be visualised by classical visualisation techniques as well as in augmented reality. 

Requirements: excellent university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Computer Science, Mathematics or similar fields; ability to work independently and target-oriented in a team, high commitment; fluent in English language to write excellent papers and to participate in international conferences; interest in practice-oriented and interdisciplinary cooperation with partners. Knowledge in image processing, particularly image registration, 3D reconstruction as well as in the implementation with C++ and of GPUs is advantageous.
