The Research and Innovation Office is seeking a Business Development Officer to support Cranfield’s industrial engagement activity. The role will be situated in a busy, high-performing team within the Research and Innovation Office, and will provide an ideal opportunity for the right candidate who is seeking to move into this career path, or widen their experience within the sector.

The Business Development Officer is a rewarding position which will play an important role in delivering the University’s Knowledge Exploitation strategy, working directly with academic colleagues to enhance impact of the world-leading research carried out at Cranfield. 

Sitting within the Business Development team which supports all aspects of research and innovation activities with industrial partners, the post holder will be expected to support bids, develop consortia, and enhance key industry relationships. Members of the team are required to work collaboratively, demonstrate high levels of client focus along with the ability to innovate, work flexibly and in complex situations

Applicants are expected to have a degree or equivalent level of qualifications in a subject related to Cranfield’s academic areas of operation. Previous experience in a business development role and/or building university-industry partnerships is desirable, although adaptability and a willingness to take on new challenges will be considered more important.

The successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have project management experience. The post holder should display an entrepreneurial attitude and enthusiasm for technology development. Using their negotiation skills and persistence, they will initiate change, motivating internal and external clients to achieve results. They will have the ability to remain calm under pressure, with demonstrable skills in interpreting, analysing and presenting information in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences. This is a newly established role, which will allow the post holder learn new skills and develop their career, whilst delivering a highly-valued and important function at the heart of the university’s mission.
