Routt County is a rural county located approximately 160 miles from Denver in the mountains of northwestern Colorado. It encompasses a total of 2,632 square miles and has a total population of 23,509 (US Census, 2010). The population and county seat of Routt County is the town of Steamboat Springs, with 12,088 citizens. There are three other towns; Hayden, total population of 1,810, Oak Creek, with a population of 884, and Yampa with a population of 447 which comprise the majority of residents in Routt County.

Routt County is known for its public lands, agricultural landscapes, recreation and excellent schools. Residents and visitors enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities including skiing, natural hot springs, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, biking and camping. Position Summary

This individual will provide leadership for the Family and Consumer Sciences program in Routt County for adults and 4-H youth and also provide support for regional and state programming in food safety, food preservation, nutrition and health, and financial management. The agent is also expected to contribute to and strengthen the overall Extension program offered in Routt County and to help build new audiences. This individual will also develop community relationships, partnerships, and volunteer opportunity for residents, the county and Extension. This position requires strong leadership skills and an ability to facilitate community groups, manage volunteers and deliver quality educational programs and services consistent with the priorities of Routt County.

The individual in this position must be able to work autonomously, work with both youth and adults, and be open to a flexible schedule, including evening events and overnight travel.

Required Job Qualifications

• Completed master’s degree. Degree (or one degree) must have been conferred in family and consumer sciences, food science and human nutrition, public health, food safety, financial resource management, human development, agriculture, youth development or closely related field. Course work and/or professional experience must provide a broad and significant understanding of family and consumer sciences.
• Ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
• Leadership ability as demonstrated by professional experience and/or appointed/elected positions of responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations.
• Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Appreciation and understanding of rural communities and an interest in working with people in a rural environment to address critical issues.
• Experience working with non-profit agencies and the ability to form relationships and partnerships with these entities and a knowledge of lower income clientele.
• Experience in needs identification, program development, and evaluation.
• Demonstrated experience/training in the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers.
• Successful experience in developing financial support for educational programs including contracting, donor development, grantsmanship, or cost recovery efforts.
• Experience or training in promoting, marketing, or creating public awareness of program/services among key community decision-makers.
• Professional experience with, or knowledge of, Extension, 4-H, and the land-grant university system.
• Ability to speak, write, and deliver educational programming in Spanish.

• Facilitate delivery of non-credit educational programming to address community and multi-county needs; evaluate efforts and report educational outcomes.
• Develop and delivery of valued programming; including website content, writing for the CSU Family & Consumer Science blog, recording radio spots.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate resources, research and programming with personnel/staff of Colorado State University and other organizations.
• Engage with appropriate Extension work teams to provide expertise for program and information development, delivery and evaluation efforts statewide.

• Provide leadership for active, ongoing, adult and youth volunteer development and engagement through volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education, training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support.
• Utilize effective communications, including websites, social media and local media, to recruit 4-H volunteers and Master Food Safety Advisor volunteers to extend the reach of Extension programming to the community.
