The University of the South Pacific has campuses in twelve Pacific Island countries with its Headquarters in Suva, Fiji. The appointees will be based in the main Laucala campus, and Headquarters but will teach across all campuses.
The School of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences is one of the largest schools in the University of the South Pacific and is sufficiently resourced to pursue excellence in teaching and research. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Computing Science, Information Systems and Mathematics. The School also offers two four years professional programmes in Computing Science: Bachelor of Networks and Security; and Bachelor of Software Engineering. These programmes are accredited by the Australian Computer Society. The School is offering a new Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity. With the growth of this new computing science programmes the School is searching for faculty staff that can join the existing, dynamic team and take the School forward.
The appointee will be required to demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach courses at all levels (undergraduate and postgraduate) and on a range of standard topics, especially, in the areas of software engineering, network and security, and information systems. The applicant should also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
The Person We Seek
For appointment at the Assistant lecturer level applicants must have a PhD in Computing Science or Information Systems, some teaching experience and research publications (at least 1 ranked publication) OR in exceptional cases candidates with relevant Masters Qualifications & QoR threshold of meeting performance expectation of a Lecturer AND some year relevant tertiary teaching experience and Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (PGCTT) or equivalent. To be considered for the Assistant Lecturer position, applicants must be citizens of the USP member countries (region).
For appointment at the Lecturer level, applicants must have a PhD in Computing Science or Information Systems, good relevant tertiary teaching experience; a strong record of internationally recognised research and publications; the ability and willingness to teach a range of standard topics in the respective streams, willingness to undertake research and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
For appointment at the Senior Lecturer level: Applicants must have a PhD in Computing Science, or Information Systems with a good, relevant undergraduate degree, substantial teaching experience, experience in curriculum development, a strong record of internationally recognised research and publications; the ability and willingness to teach at all levels (undergraduate and postgraduate), experience in postgraduate supervision and a demonstrated ability and competence in research.
Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Experience in distance and flexible learning and demonstrated excellence in teaching in a multicultural environment.
- For appointment at the Lecturer level, a formal tertiary teaching qualification would be an added advantage.
The position is available for a term of 5 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: Assistant Lecturer FJ $54,195 to FJ $65,034 per annum
Lecturer FJ $66 990 to FJ $88, 144 per annum
Senior Lecturer FJ $90, 882 to FJ $104, 865 per annum
