Job description

We are seeking to recruit a part time Library Attendant to supervise and work within the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) on the Chichester campus from November 2017 until May 2018. You will be responsible for ensuring that a pleasant and quiet working environment is maintained that is conducive to a learning and study area. You

The post holder will maintain a quiet working environment on the 1st floor and a silent working environment on the 2nd floor of the LRC. You will also respond to and answer basic enquires from students and staff and follow up on requests from students (by text message) to manage the environment of the LRC.

The successful candidate must be able to take a firm but fair approach to reducing noise levels and requesting students to adhere to the Library code of conduct, and will follow Library procedures and escalate issues as appropriate.  

The hours of work will be from 12.00 - 2.00 p.m., Monday to Friday during term time only, and we are looking for a commitment to fill these hours on a casual but regular basis during the Semester. Therefore applicants must be reliable and able to meet the commitments of the post.

Applicants will need to have personal resilience and be vigilant with a good ability to assess a situation.  You will also need to demonstrate good customer care and service skills, and be able to remain diplomatic and firm when dealing with potentially difficult circumstances.  A good knowledge of the University's Library facilities is desirable. Full training will be provided.
