Applications are invited for the following joint positions in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine (through the Bau Institute of Medical & Health Sciences Education (BIMHSE)) and the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

To foster the collaborations on developing future educators in the medical and allied health professions, the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine [through the Bau Institute of Medical & Health Sciences Education (BIMHSE)] and the Faculty of Education are making two joint Associate Professor appointments in the field of Medical and Allied Healthcare Education. One appointee’s tenure home would be the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and the other the Faculty of Education. Besides contributing to development and delivery of current MHSE programmes and collaborations, the aim of the positions would be to provide training in clinical education to allied healthcare professionals (AHPs) in the region.

Applicants for both positions should have a doctoral degree in Medical Science, Healthcare Education, or a related field (see below for Faculty-specific requirements). They should have demonstrated strong teaching and research experience in the relevant area, and have a strong commitment to Knowledge Exchange/community engagement. As part of the cross-faculty initiative, the appointees will work with colleagues in both faculties on a new initiative to develop a new M.Ed. specialism in Medical & Health Sciences Education (MHSE). The appointees will be expected to (i) develop and deliver one or more courses of the M.Ed. programme specifically in the area of clinical education of AHPs; (ii) supervise student projects and theses; (iii) conduct research within the area of clinical education; and (vi) take up administrative and/or clinical duties as required. 

Post 1: BIMHSE in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine – in addition to the above, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent spoken and written English, strong organizational ability and self-motivation, aptitude in instructional design using social media/e-learning applications, and a keen interest in promoting undergraduate student learning are essential.  Applicants with experience in curriculum development, teaching, administration and educational research are highly desirable. Post 2: Faculty of Education – in addition to the above, applicants should be professionally qualified as a Speech-Language Therapist. The appointee will contribute to the professional development of clinical supervisors through the work of the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
