The Role

The Department of Economics, University of Otago Business School, invites applications for a full-time, confirmation path (tenure-track) position in Applied Microeconomics. We seek applicants who specialise in Empirical Microeconomics, with preference for specialties in Health, Labour, and/or Industrial Organisation. The appointment will be at the Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor in the North American system) or Senior Lecturer level. The specific level of appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will be expected to: contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes; develop a productive research programme; supervise postgraduate research students at Master’s and PhD levels; and contribute to service activities at the Departmental, Divisional, and University levels.

Skills and experience

  • PhD degree in Economics completed.
  • Research published in high-quality journals.
  • Demonstrated capability to teach at University level.
  • Experience in obtaining external research funding is desirable.

The Department of Economics is a research-intensive department where teaching loads allow significant time for research. The Department has healthy Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD programs. This is a permanent, full-time confirmation path (tenure-track) position. The timing of the appointment is flexible, but may begin as early as July 2018.
