The High Performance Networks group (HPN), led by Professor Dimitra Simeonidou is seeking researchers with expertise in high-speed optical transmission (short-range or long-haul) or optical networks (Core/metro, DCN, optical front/back hauling network) to join the optical data plane development team. Researchers will carry out research for novel network architecture and transmission technologies for future optical networks.
 
A well-established team, including experts in FPGA programming, software-defined networks, will support your research and help to shape the future together. With cutting-edge transmission facilities and network testbed facility in the HPN lab, the researcher has the opportunity to leverage the state-of-the-art and to make impact in the related area.
 
The HPN group features one of the largest and most illustrious optical network test-bed facilities in Europe. National dark fiber infrastructure service(NDFIS) and UK Programmable Fixed and Mobile Internet Infrastructure (INITIATE) provides physical connections to other universities or research institutes in UK.
 
Several multi-million research programs and projects will provide a platform from which you will communicate and collaborate with top-researchers in UK and Europe.
 
You are required to carry out research in one or more of the following research topics: 
 
Programmable transmitters and their applications in optical networks
Design and experimental demonstration of dynamic optical networks systems and subsystem
Data Center Networks
SDM/WDM/TDM multi-dimensional optical networks
Network convergence in 5G/Metro multi-technology network ecosystemYou will carry out work leading to publications in high-quality, high-impact journals and international conferences.
