Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Geography
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of Geology, Geography, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Sciences and Planning. The postdoctoral fellow will be based on The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, located approximately 3km from the Brisbane CBD.
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Queensland invites applications for a post-doctoral position in Urban and Economic Geography. This opportunity offers a chance to conduct research on the global connectivities of the resources industries, with a focus on how mining and energy firms in Australian cities are networked internationally through their upstream and downstream linkages.
The overarching aim of this project is to offer innovative insights into how Australian cities are integrated into the global economy through firm-based networks. The appointment is somewhat flexible in that appointees can elect to work either part-time for 12 months or full-time for 7-11 months. The appointment will commence in early 2018.
The successful appointee will be engaged as a postdoctoral research fellow with Dr Thomas Sigler in conjunction with colleagues at two globally distinguished research institutions: The University of Western Australia, and Ghent University. The successful appointee will be responsible for data collection and management, analysis, and assist with the preparation of multiple scholarly manuscripts. Apointees will be given a high degree of input into theoretical approaches, and research methodology can be tailored to fit individual interests.
Applicants should possess a PhD in Geography or a closely related discipline. Interested parties should have a strong interest in a research-oriented career and be highly motivated to carry out high-calibre research. Essential skills include data management, academic writing, and a desire to learn new techniques and methods. Candidates with experience in quantitative techniques will be given added consideration.

The remuneration package for Level A, Full Time appointment will be in the range $64,533 – $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $75,504 – $102,416 p.a. full-time equivalent). This position is very flexible with applicants able to work in a part time or full time capacity depending on their personal circumstances.
