Description of Work Unit
Colorado State University is a land-grant university and Fort Collins is home to multiple research groups in state and federal agencies that offer opportunities for collaboration on a variety of issues. The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics has 20 tenure track faculty, 1 lecturer, 35 graduate students, and 480 undergraduate students within 3 majors (Agricultural Business, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and Agricultural Education). Colorado is home to a diverse agricultural, food, and natural resource land base. Colorado agriculture generates over $7 billion in revenues, with over two-thirds generated from the beef and dairy cattle industries. Colorado is one of the top 10 States by Organic sales in 2016 and has a vibrant food sector with numerous successful startups, a thriving natural foods industry, and other expanding industries such as craft brewing ($3 billion in sales). Additionally, over 43% of Colorado’s land resources are designated public land, which provides innovative approaches to managing plains and mountain ecosystems within agricultural, outdoor recreation, and tourism contexts.
DARE centers its research, teaching and outreach activities in defined areas of excellence: agricultural education, agribusiness management and finance, livestock systems, consumer choice and the economics of water, land and environment. We are dedicated to, and appreciated for, engaging stakeholders in high-quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, as well as the ability to effectively communicate findings to the public and peers. The candidate chosen for this position is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching program focused on agricultural business management. Possible expertise includes, but is not limited to, agricultural production systems, agricultural finance and risk management, industrial organization, supply-chain management, food marketing, consumer economics, and agricultural and food policy.
This is a research and teaching position. The successful candidate will also participate in outreach and engagement commensurate with his/her rank and experience. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate courses. The candidate is expected to lead collaboration with other departments, and engage with government agencies, industry and other stakeholders. Evidence of successful scholarship and publication in peer-reviewed journals, the ability to attract extramural funding, and a successful history of graduate students’ mentorship appropriate to the individual’s rank are preferred.

- Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or related field completed by start date.
- Specialization and/or strong interest in developing research and teaching programs in a topic area related to agricultural business management.
- Evidence of research productivity, commensurate to rank.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching and advising in a topic area relevant to agricultural business management at the graduate and/or undergraduate level.
- Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to pursue contract and grant funding, including support to graduate students.
- Evidence of, or interest to engage in, outreach activities.
- Ability to advance the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities.
