The Apprentice Electrician implements the work unit’s goals and objectives by assisting skilled Journeyman Electricians. All work is done under the IEC and building codes. This includes, but is not limited to the maintenance, repair, removal, and replacement of primary and secondary electrical systems and/or associated components. Position provides construction and remodel services to new and existing spaces to meet the ever-changing needs of the university.
Two years of progressively responsible electrical experience in the commercial or industrial electrical construction field as an apprentice or building electrical maintenance worker, or electronic experience appropriate to the work assignment.
Valid driver’s license.
Satisfactory completion of a formalized electrician apprenticeship or satisfactory completion of electrical or electronic course work at an accredited non-correspondence college, trade or vocational school, or military service may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:
- Enrollment in apprentice program recognized by the state of Colorado or registered apprentice status with the State of Colorado, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
- Willingness and desire to learn, receive instruction, and support Journeyman Electrician.
- Demonstrated experience practicing safe working habits.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
Essential Job Duties
Job Duty Category Conduit Installation Assistant Duty/Responsibility
- Assists Journeyman Electricians on the installation of conduit for project work.
- Order conduit for projects.
Percentage Of Time 35% Job Duty Category Wire Installation Assistant Duty/Responsibility
- Assists Journeyman Electricians with the installation of wire. Installs outlets and switches under the supervision of Journeyman Electrician.
Percentage Of Time 35% Job Duty Category University Remodel and Construction Assistant Duty/Responsibility
- Perform electrical demo work to allow for remodel work.
Percentage Of Time 20% Job Duty Category Other Duties as Assigned Duty/Responsibility
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the university.
