The University of Queensland is a world class institution which ranks in the world’s top universities, as measured by several key independent rankings, including the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities (41), the US News Best Global Universities Rankings (52), QS World University Rankings (47), Academic Ranking of World Universities (55), and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (65). UQ secured a greater share of Australian Research Council grants in 2016 than any other university nationally. The University’s Life Sciences broad subject field ranking in the Academic Ranking of World Universities was the highest in Australia at 20.

The Role

This role provides an opportunity to manage and develop the strategic direction of a leading School of Education. The School is consistently ranked as one of Australia’s premier research and teaching institutions in the field of education and it is part of a large comprehensive Faculty with a broad academic profile and substantial research achievements. The new Head should have the vision and energy to move the School to the next level, and build a collaborative, engaged team.

The University is seeking an accomplished individual who can enable the School to achieve its strategic goals, while also aligning it to the goals of both the Faculty and the University. The position provides the opportunity to build closer linkages between research and teaching within the School, while also connecting education with other parts of the institution in relation to both teaching and research opportunities. Equally important will be the ability to develop a program of outreach with government, schools and the professions.

The Person

The new Head should combine a proven research track record with a demonstrated commitment to leading a program of high quality teaching and education across the School, while also implementing the University’s student strategy. The successful candidate will require the ability to drive overall excellence and position the School for continued success in a highly competitive market.
