Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Chinese Language and Literature in the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2018, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Faculty of Education is ranked number 4 among the top Education faculties worldwide by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for Education 2018. Information about the Faculty can be obtained at http://www.hku.hk/education.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, a professional teaching qualification in the relevant discipline, and substantial experience in teaching at the tertiary level.  Knowledge of the local context would be an advantage.  They should be strongly committed to high-quality scholarly research and teaching in two or more of the following areas: Chinese linguistics, Chinese language education, and teaching Chinese as a second language. Those with knowledge and experience relating to the IB Chinese curriculum would be desirable. 

The appointee will teach the courses offered by the Faculty at various levels from undergraduate to doctorate, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research, and undertake school practicum supervision and administrative responsibilities.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefits.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
