Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Buddhist Art and Culture

Applications are invited for appointment as Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Buddhist Arts and Culture in the Centre of Buddhist studies, to commence on September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis.

The Centre promotes innovative thinking and new horizons for Buddhist studies and research.  Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://www.buddhism.hku.hk.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Buddhist studies with at least three years of teaching and supervision experience in a recognized tertiary institution. They should have a distinguished record in teaching Buddhist arts and culture, an international research and publication record, and good knowledge in Chinese Buddhist manuscripts and Buddhist art.  They should also be able to read classical Chinese Buddhist scriptures. Those with field work experiences in ancient Buddhist sites are preferred.

The appointee will contribute to undergraduate teaching, the Common Core Curriculum, the taught postgraduate programme and the research postgraduate programmes, and will be expected to apply for external grants. He/She will also carry out administrative duties as appropriate to their rank.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
