About the Centre: based at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre (QEIIMC) and part of UWA’s Dental School, you will join the Oral Health Centre of WA (OHCWA) which is a state-of-the-art dental teaching and learning facility united with an oral health care clinic. OHCWA is the only institution in WA offering tertiary training in dentistry. OHCWA is a partnership between The University of Western Australia and the Department of Health of Western Australia, and is the primary focus for oral health education, research and specialist care delivery in Western Australia. It treats approximately 15,000 patients a year and delivers a range of clinical and technical training programs. OHCWA is located on the QEII campus adjacent to the new Perth Children's Hospital.
About the opportunity: As a Central Sterilising Service Assistant you will support the Supervisor of Dental Clinic Assistant (DCAs) and be responsible for the provision of cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation of reusable medical devices and maintenance of associated environments at the at the Oral Health Centre, providing a clean and sterile product with the purpose of reducing risk of cross infection. You will work autonomously to identify and perform appropriate cleaning requirements, and inspect and document the result of processes to ensure compliance as per protocol, manufacturer’s instructions and standards. You will also identify priorities for service requirements, identify repairs and records malfunctions of mechanical/electrical equipment to the Supervisor and maintain all relevant documentation. In addition, you will operate and validate all equipment as per policy and procedures.
About you: You will hold a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Sterilisation Services) or equivalent qualification and have some relevant experience in a sterilisation unit. You will have knowledge on the effective application of infection control principles and an understanding of the AS/NZS 4187:2014 Sterilisation Standard. Key to your success will be in your effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
