Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique UQ research institute, which was formed as a strategic alliance between UQ and the  Queensland Government’s Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute’s strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high impact science for sustainable agriculture and food by delivering outcomes for industry and the community.

The QAAFI Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences has expertise in identifying the mechanisms underlying consumer-perceived properties of foods, both sensory and nutritional. The QAAFI Centre for Animal Science has expertise in the relationships between animal genetics and performance, with a particular focus on enhancing productivity and meat quality in tropical production systems. This new position is to build an activity in meat science that can connect the current skills in the two Centres and provide new insights into consumer-relevant meat properties for both domestic and export markets. As the beef industry is the largest of the agriculture economy in Queensland, providing leading-edge insights and opportunities for this important sector will be a priority.

The role

As the Research leader for Meat Science you will provide intellectual leadership that will encourage the development and maintenance of a discovery and innovation culture within the Institute in research for industry outcomes, postgraduate teaching and supervision, and further development of the Institute’s research programs, as well as performing administrative and other activities associated with the role.

You possess a PhD in the area of Meat Science or relevant discipline, and have a  demonstrated international reputation in Meat Science and stellar contribution to research. You have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, and to represent and promote Meat Science at the University and wider community level including industry, government and professional bodies. You have a proven track record for securing funding for short, medium and long term projects, and have supervised RHD students to successful completion.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion.
