Interactive Design (http://www.bu.edu/id) is the web design division of Boston University’s award-winning Creative Services group within the department of Marketing & Communications. The ID hive is always buzzing with innovative designers, wicked smart developers, and colorful copywriters. If you’re passionate, conscientious and love to concept, design, prototype, test, and launch interactive projects—from large websites to editorial stories to mobile applications—this is the place for you. You’ll work closely with a team of copywriters, project managers, photographers, and developers while ensuring that projects meet high standards of quality and address the client’s strategic goals. All while being around some really nice people.
What you'll do:
You’ll work on designing interactive projects of many different sizes and complexities. For some of our largest and most immersive projects, you’ll take the lead and create great sites like the College of Communications, or Questrom School of Business. You’ll design stories like this one about searching for new physics at the LHC or explain climate change lessons from Venice.
- Participate in all aspects of the interactive design process:
- Information Architecture, Wire Framing, Prototyping, User Experience, Visual Design, and Front-end Markup.
- Collaborate with developers to build complex functionality.
- Supervise the work of collaborating team members to ensure that client and institutional branding objectives are achieved.
- Maintain a state-of-the-art understanding of current and emerging tools and technology.
- Design both small to large university sites and long-form, highly interactive, narrative editorial stories for several in-house editorial channels.
- Create great design, while still having a life beyond the office.
Things you’ll learn, or learn better:
As a university we encourage our team to grow and learn in the office and at workshops, conferences, and classes. Through collaboration and sharing of ideas you’ll learn to be a stronger designer, how to structure complex, thousand+ page sites, how to improve content strategy & architecture, even how to use the command line. You’ll learn WordPress and see how it works in a managed environment with over 2,000 sites, how Git, Grunt, and other modern web tools help you more easily design and build award-winning sites. You’ll become a master at Sass and learn how to integrate interactive components into your designs. You’ll probably teach us a few things too. Members of our team have opportunities to get master’s degrees, speak at conferences, and even contribute to WordPress core.
If you want to work in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment but, an environment that provides a terrific work life balance, we want to hear from you.
