Two Lectureships in Mathematics

School of Engineering and Applied Science
Salary: The salary range for these positions is £32,548 to £47,722 per annum

Aston University School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) is consistently ranked as one of the top Universities in the UK for engineering-related disciplines.  Our research strengths are diverse, multidisciplinary in nature and are designed to promote solutions to practical problems.

The Mathematics Group in the School of Engineering and Applied Science is seeking to make two new appointments at the lecturer/associate professor level. The appointments will augment our existing strengths within the System Analytics Research Institute (http://www.aston.ac.uk/eas/research/groups/systems-analytics-research-institute/) in statistical pattern processing, machine learning  and visual informatics, and would ideally be in the broad area of probabilistic data modelling. We are seeking strong enthusiastic applicants keen to develop their international research profiles and their own research teams.

The new appointees will be joining the Mathematics team in delivering our quality applied mathematics degree programmes at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as participating in the development of online delivery of postgraduate and work-based Data Science courses such as the Rolls-Royce Digital Academy programme. They will have the opportunity to develop their research profiles, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects, be involved with our mathematics student society activities, and also to engage externally through contributing to industrial networks, masterclasses and summer schools. Information on the teaching activities can be found at http://www1.aston.ac.uk/eas/about-eas/academic-groups/mathematics/.

We would particularly like to encourage applications from women seeking to progress their academic careers.  Aston University is committed to the principles of the Athena SWAN Charter http://www.ecu.ac.uk/equality-charter-marks/athena-swan/, recognised recently by a prestigious Silver Award to EAS, and we pride ourselves on our vibrant, friendly and supportive working environment and family atmosphere.  Please contact us if you would like more information on any aspect of working at Aston University.

The tentative starting date will be 1 January 2018.
