Head of School of Engineering

Institution: Kingston University

Salary: Competitive

Kingston University is a thriving modern Institution with significant ambitions. Under the leadership of its new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Spier, it is poised and ready to adopt its new corporate plan, which will herald a new chapter in its history. Having won the 2017 Guardian Award for Teaching Excellence, Kingston University is seeking to develop the extent to which it further enhances the life chances of its diverse student body and contributes to society as a whole.

The School of Engineering is located within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. It provides high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses across a range of disciplines including Aerospace, Aircraft, Mechanical, Automotive, and Civil Engineering. The School is host to a vibrant research culture, which feeds into the student experience and supports the development of commercial partnerships. As part of the University’s overall development, the provisions within the School and the Faculty as a whole have recently been modified in order to better the efficient delivery of courses and to further enhance interdisciplinary synergies.

The post of Head of School of Engineering is an exciting senior opportunity at a critical time in the University’s evolution. An increasing demand for engineering skills at all levels, and the advent of degree-level apprenticeships, means that the strategic backdrop is changing rapidly. This in turn demands strong leadership credentials, particularly with regard to staff, and a genuine vision to ensure that the School is in the most advantageous position possible in the sector.

With a strong personal academic track record, the successful candidate will have experience of managing activities across teaching, learning, research, and enterprise. They will also have a proven track record of delivering change within an ambitious environment that is linked to exceptional outcomes for both students and society more broadly.  Finally, they will have a real opportunity to make a significant impact to the reputation and growth of the School, the Faculty and delivery of the overall university corporate plan.
