The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.5 billion.
 
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
 
The mission of the Educational Development Centre is to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the University and support the University’s strategic initiatives in nurturing the development of all-round students with excellent professional competence. The Centre offers a variety of services, including short courses and workshops on teaching and learning, individual consultations, support for student learning outcomes assessment, teaching evaluation services, and activities which promote and support the use of educational technologies to enhance student learning. Senior Educational Development Officer (Quality Enhancement)
 
Duties
 
The appointee will be appointed at the substantive level of Senior Educational Development Officer and will be required to: 
 
(a)    lead and coordinate the work of the Quality Enhancement Team, which supports the University’s strategic development in quality enhancement by studying current quality assurance and enhancement practice, bringing in international best practice, formulating enhancement strategies and disseminating relevant policies through workshops, consultation and other means as appropriate;
  
(b)    coordinate and advise on the development and implementation of the University’s Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan and the consolidated analysis and reporting of learning outcome assessment results at the institutional level, and provide training and consultation to individual teachers and departments on outcome assessment strategies;
  
(c)    coordinate and provide professional input to support the University’s engagement in external quality audits, from the formulation of the overall work plan to its execution, including preparing the institutional submission, follow-up action plan and progress report, making arrangements for the audit visit, and engaging stakeholders in the process;
  
(d)    support the initiatives launched by Offices of Deputy President and Provost and Associate Vice President relating to quality enhancement at the university level;   
  
(e)    engage in educational and/or higher education research and contribute to the University-wide teaching development programme of workshops and seminars; and
  
(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by Associate Vice President (Learning and Teaching), the Director of the Educational Development or their delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    good academic/professional qualifications, preferably a doctoral degree in Education or a relevant discipline;
  
(b)    not less than twelve years of experience in leading/supporting quality enhancement at university level;
  
(c)    a proven track record in leading/supporting quality enhancement at university level, as demonstrated by substantive involvement in some of the following or equivalent activities:
(i)     policy development pertaining to institution-wide quality enhancement;
(ii)     projects to develop a quality culture at institutional/departmental level;
(iii)     initiatives to improve quality assurance processes;
(iv)     external quality audits and/or accreditation exercises; and
(v)     quality assurance of academic programmes.
  
(d)    a good track record in producing learning and teaching publications and substantial experience in facilitating teaching development workshops for academic staff, or a good track record in producing institutional reports and substantial administrative experience at a senior level;
  
(e)    experience in leading and coordinating the work of a small team, preferably with some management experience in the higher education context;
   
(f)    strong organisational, problem-solving and leadership skills, a proactive and professional work style, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively; and
  
(g)    excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including high proficiency in written and spoken English.  
  
Shortlisted candidates will be required to present a portfolio of relevant works and accomplishments and to attend an interview.
  
Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
